At the most basic level, skincare application transfers a formulation from its container—or from an applicator—to the surface of the skin.
But physically, more is happening.
Think about the difference between: lightly tapping an eye cream with one fingertip; rubbing moisturizer between your palms and pressing it onto the face; sweeping a mask across the skin with a brush; bouncing foundation onto the face with a sponge; rolling a jade roller across a serum; gliding a gua sha along the jaw; or using a weighted skincare application tool to distribute serum while simultaneously massaging the skin.
All of these actions deliver a topical product.
They are not mechanically identical.
That matters because skin is living tissue, not an inert surface.
